Hapa zome at Forest School

What a gorgeous day at Forest School today. The sun was shining, the birds were singing and the children were hammering!! Today we explored the art of hapa zome, a Japanese technique that involves pounding natural materials - like leaves and flowers - onto fabric to create beautiful, colourful prints. Using hammers and cotton cloth, we experimented with different plants to see which produced the most vibrant colours and patterns. Through this creative activity, we learned about the pigments in plants, developed fine motor skills, and expressed ourselves artistically. We also practiced patience, concentration, and care when handling tools safely. Hapa zome allowed us to observe nature closely and appreciate the beauty and diversity of the plant life around us.
