Wooden Spoon Quiet Room

We are absolutely delighted to share that our new Wooden Spoon Quiet Room is now complete - and already making a difference to our learners.

Back in May 2025, we submitted an EOI to Wooden Spoon, Children's Charity of Rugby to help us transform a space within our school. At the time, the space was completely bare and was used when students were feeling dysregulated, but the environment felt cold and uninviting. Far from the calming space our students needed.

Thanks to a very generous grant from Wooden Spoon, we have been able to completely reimagine the space.

Our vision was simple: create a space that felt safe, warm and supportive. We wanted padded walls to reduce risk of injury, soft furnishings for comfort, and calming sensory lighting to help students regulate their emotions. We also hoped the space could be doubled as a play-based learning environment for students following our semi-formal curriculum.

The project truly became a community effort. Representatives from Wooden Spoon visited to see the space and meet our team and students. We worked with specialist company Senteq to design and install the padding and lighting, and we even had volunteers from Sage Foundation help us prepare and paint the room alongside our Maintenance Manager. Even our students got involved, proudly helping get the space ready.

In February 2026, the installation was complete, along with the new modular soft furnishings from Possum Play. The transformation has been incredible.

The room is now calm, welcoming and purposeful. Students are already using the space to self-regulate more proactively, and staff have noticed a reduction in escalation and shorter recovery times. It has also become a fantastic environment for imaginative play, communication work and sensory-based learning.

We are so grateful to Wooden Spoon and everyone involved in bringing this project to life. This room will support our young people for years to come.
