Rolling into Wheelchair Basketball: Fun, Fitness, and Fresh Perspectives
We’ve just had our first two sessions of wheelchair basketball with Jack from Smile Through Sport, and wow—what an eye-opener! Learning the basics—maneuvering the chair, passing, and shooting—has been surprisingly challenging, but also incredibly fun.
Wheelchair basketball isn’t just a workout; it’s a full upper-body fitness blast. Pushing, turning, and shooting builds strength, agility, and coordination in ways standing sports don’t.
But the benefits go beyond fitness. It’s a crash course in teamwork, focus, and resilience. And stepping into a wheelchair—even briefly—gives a new perspective on the skill and determination of athletes with disabilities.
Able-bodied or not, trying this sport is a chance to push your limits, have a laugh, and gain a fresh outlook. Wheelchair basketball isn’t just a game—it’s an experience.
