Today we had an exciting and informative visit to Pegswood Fire Station, where we learned all about the important job firefighters do to keep our community safe.
The firefighters gave us a fantastic tour of the station and showed us where they store all of their protective clothing and equipment. We learned why each piece of gear is so important and how it helps to keep firefighters safe while they are helping others.
One of the highlights of the visit was seeing the fire engine up close. We discovered all of the different equipment it carries and learned how firefighters use it to respond to emergencies. We were also shown the specialist rescue equipment and the water rescue kit, which is used to help people in rivers and other bodies of water.
The firefighters took us around the station and showed us where they eat their meals, relax and rest while they are waiting for emergency calls. We also got to see the famous firefighters' pole, which everyone was excited to learn about!
Perhaps the best part of the day was getting hands-on with the firefighting equipment. We had the opportunity to use a real fire hose and discovered just how powerful the water pressure is. It was great fun and gave us a real appreciation of the skills firefighters need.
Throughout the visit, we learned about the importance of fire safety, water safety, teamwork and helping others. We asked lots of questions and were inspired by the dedication and bravery of the firefighters.
We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Pegswood Fire Station for making us feel so welcome and for giving us such an enjoyable and memorable experience. It was a fantastic trip that we will all remember for a long time!
